Try installing the recommended driver the one the “additional drivers” dialog recommends using the Ubuntu Software Centre. My card is kubjntu ati radeon I started by installing the nvidia-current package. It worked with the nouveau driver, but the nvidia driver ruined it. How do I get them installed, is there a way that my “additional drivers” program could download it somehow.

[kubuntu] Cannot use NVIDIA driver in Kubuntu
