To each their own I agree, but it will probably be a long while before Comcast quits sending modem boot files for the Arris TMG emta modem, simply because this modem was one of their most popular modems when it was deployed on their network and Comcast still has many subscribers who still use this particular modem and that was the original poster’s concern.

I agree, but in situations like that, either Comcast Support can resolve it, or the customer has the option of filing complaints with their state public service commission, regulartory authority, or the city or county franchise authority.

It has to do with your local E emergency system regulations in that the cable company is required by the local state, city or county franchise authority to provide the phone equipment necessary to connect to the public telephone switched network for thier phone subscribers and the reason for that is because some low income people participate in the federal government’s lifeline phone service that offers discounted phone service as a way so they can reach the local E center if necessary.
So the modem arrived yesterday and I installed it however Comcast refused it and would not let it in their system so rather then arguing with the eBay seller to try to get my money back I just threw it away and called it a lesson learned. How is the Gold Competency Level Attained? It was also the modem that I used on Wide Open West formerly Knology before our apartment complex’s management recently changed providers and forced me to switch to Comcast.
In the end, its your money. The personnel that work there seem to better know what the actual local franchise’s policies really are than do support reps at the national number.
